The 49ers today promoted quarterback Adrian Martinez to the 53-man roster. Martinez, who has never attempted a regular-season NFL pass, will serve as Mac Jones’ backup tonight against the Los Angeles Rams while Brock Purdy rests his sore big toe. Martinez had been temporarily elevated from the practice squad in Weeks 2 and 3. Teams can elevate a player in that manner three times in a season.

With Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) also out of action against the Rams, the team temporarily elevated receiver Malik Turner from the practice squad. San Francisco’s wideouts against the Rams will be Demarcus Robinson, Kendrick Bourne, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore and Turner.

They also elevated defensive end Trevis Gipson, who performed well in the preseason with one sack and eight quarterback pressures in two games. Gipson is filling in for Robert Beal Jr., who injured his ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
