More than $17,000 was raised as Gunnedah PaediatRic and Maternity Support (PRAMS) held its annual charity golf day at the Gunnedah course on Sunday September 21.
Nearly 80 golfers took part in the 4-person Ambrose on a lovely sunny day, with a barbecue lunch also part of the occasion.
PRAMS committee member Rebecca Ryan said there was great sponsorship from businesses and great community support, while the Gunnedah Golf Club golfers’ donation was $1515.
“It was our 15th golf day and many of sponsors have been there since the start and some of the golfers too!”
Ms Ryan said funds would partly go towards ongoing PRAMS projects including kids activity packs for youngsters when they go to a hospital or the emergency department, and scholarships for local nursing and medical students.
A big focus for the group when the hospital redevelopment opens will be improving accommodation for visiting medical staff, Ms Ryan said.
“We want to make sure medical staff are welcomed and want to call Gunnedah home,” she said.
Ms Ryan said PRAMS worked closely with hospital and community health staff, while key focuses included maternity and paediatrics.
“One concern (in Gunnedah) is a lot of women are moved to Tamworth or further with their baby,” she said.
“We want to be able to get back to caring for babies in Gunnedah.”
As for the golf, the winning team comprised Lachie Fleming, Shane Fleming, Tony Burtenshaw and Dan Percy with 53 points.
Just half a point behind in second place was the foursome of Andrew Ceeney, Glen Pinn, Sam Gulliford and Adrian Burl.
Burl won the men’s straight drive while Fay Hausfeld won the ladies straight drive.
Nearest-the-pin winners were Ceeney, Matt Agostino, Blake Small, Luke Johnston, Sophie Carter and Donna O’Connell.
