HAYWARD OPEN TO BEING IN CURNOW DEAL

Sydney forward Will Hayward says he’d be open to being part of a blockbuster trade to Carlton for Charlie Curnow, but he’d prefer to remain at the Swans.

Sydney is seen as the most likely landing spot for Curnow as the Swans prepare to ramp up their pursuit of the Blues superstar when the trade period officially begins next week.

Curnow also has interest from Geelong, who has limited trade collateral, and Gold Coast, who has Christian Petracca and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan on its radar.

Hayward re-signed with the Swans last year when he was a free agent on a new five-year deal, with the Blues one of the clubs that were keen on luring the South Australian.

The dynamic goalkicker is now among the Swans to be linked to a potential Curnow trade, though discussions haven’t developed in a meaningful way.

Hayward told Code Sports he “definitely wouldn’t request a trade” but is prepared for a call from his manager in the event that Sydney “wanted to get rid of me”.

“You don’t want to be somewhere where you’re not wanted,” Hayward said.

“There are not many other clubs that I’d want to play for. I obviously spoke with Carlton last year, I really like Vossy.

“But the club hasn’t asked me, so as far as I’m concerned, I’ll still be here next year, hopefully playing with Charlie.”

Hayward, who recently returned from an overseas trip to Japan, says he was watching the 2025 Grand Final when he saw his name emerge in trade reports.

“I was like, oh sweet,” Hayward added.

“I had a few texts, I haven’t heard anything that has legs just yet. So, until the club approaches me, I’m sticking here.”

FREO COACH MEETS WITH STAR’S BROTHER

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has reportedly met with Hawthorn defender Jai Serong in a bid to unite him with older brother and Dockers vice-captain Caleb Serong out west.

Serong failed to play a senior game for the Hawks in 2025 after they bolstered their back six with Tom Barrass and Josh Battle.

And now multiple reports state Longmuir has caught up with the 22-year old both in Melbourne and Perth as the Dockers zero in on the backman.

Foxfooty.com.au’s Will Faulkner in May reported Fremantle as a club keeping tabs on Serong.

According to SEN’s Sam Edmund, Sydney and North Melbourne are also keen on Serong.
