SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team continues their fall season this Saturday-Monday (October 4-6) at the MIAC Championships, hosted at Braemar Golf Course (par-72) in Edina, Minnesota. The MIAC Golf Championships will be a three-day, 54-hole stroke play event. Teams shall consist of five golfers with the top four individual scores counting from each round. After each round, teams will be paired based on team score for the following day.

The team coach Scott Moe ’95 has assembled for the MIAC Championships consists of Riley Zebroski (Jr., Watertown, S.D.), Lauren Hubbart (Sr., Hastings, Minn.), Teckla Wahlstrand (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.), Addison Longie (Fy., Hutchinson, Minn.), and Emily Kolb (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.). The Gusties look to continue to capitalize on a blend of experience and new faces as they take on Braemar Golf Course. Zebroski and Kolb have both competed twice before in the MIAC Championships and Hubbart has competed once before.

In 2024, Gustavus finished fifth as a team, shooting a 989. Zebroski led the team individually, finishing 16th with an 82-80-79-241 (+25) score followed by Hubbart finishing in 21st with a three round total of 248. The Gusties have three past team championships, going on a three-year streak from 2008-2010 and the last time a Gustie earned medalist honors was also 2010, when Katie Schenfeld carded a 73-73-78-224 to win the tournament.

The season so far has been highlighted by Zebroski and Hubbart’s performances. In the first round of the St. Kate’s Fall Invitational, the Watertown, S.D. native shot a 71, the lowest round of the season and tied for the second best round in the conference this season. Overall, Zebroski has led the team in scoring average as well, averaging a 79.6 score over 10 rounds. Hubbart, playing in her home city of Hastings, shot a 72 on the first day of the D3 Classic, hosted by Gustavus for the low round of her career. The team has one win this season, beating out the competition at the Blugold Georgianni Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire, with a score of 329-335-664 (+92) over two days. Coming into the tournament, the Gusties are averaging a 320.3 team score, which ranks fifth in the conference.

“We are excited for the weekend,” Moe said. “Braemar is a course that’s going to require really good course management. I think we are playing some pretty solid golf right now. The weather this weekend is going to bring some challenges as winds are expected to gust up to 40 miles an hour, so playing smart and not focusing on score will be a key for the weekend. Our conference has some really strong teams. If we are able to play our game over the three day stretch, I like our chances for a high finish”.

The top ten individual scorers (including ties) at the MIAC Championships will be recognized as the All-Championship teams and automatically earn All-Conference honors when end-of-season awards are announced in the spring. The team champions will receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Golf Championships in May, played at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California.

After the MIAC Championships, the Gusties compete in one more event to conclude their fall season, the Golfweek Invitational from October 12-14 in Destin, Florida.
