Rory McIlroy had plenty to celebrate after Europe’s 15-13 win in the Ryder Cup yesterday. But while his team partied, the five-time major champion also found a way to stoke the flames with rival Bryson DeChambeau.
Things have become tense between these two stars in the past couple of years. There was DeChambeau taking a funny crack at McIlroy with the cameras rolling regarding the outcome of the 2024 US Open (McIlroy got even by beating DeChambeau in the final pairing of this year’s Masters). Then ahead of last week, McIlroy had some, um, interesting comments regarding DeChambeau.

“I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people,” McIlroy said in an interview with The Guardian. “That is basically what I think of that. To get attention he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others.”
Not what you’d expect from two guys who were both part of Adam Sandler’s team in “Happy Gilmore 2”!
And back to yesterday, when this feud grew – despite the two not facing each other once in five Ryder Cup sessions. McIlroy was celebrating above fans on the walkway that takes the players from the clubhouse at Bethpage Black to and from the first and 18th holes when he noticed he was perched near a big sign that read “DECHAMBEAU”. Rory then draped a European flag over the signage, doing his best to cover Bryson’s entire name to the delight of the European fans watching. Have a look:

Wow, that’s pretty cold, Rory. Move over Bryson–Brooks, golf has a new great rivalry. It’s just too bad these guys don’t cross paths more often.
