Collingwood premiership forward Brody Mihocek is set to join Melbourne, the club confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

It’s been confirmed Mihocek will sign with the Demons as an unrestricted free agent less than 24 hours after the Magpies’ best and fairest.

The 32-year-old departs Collingwood after booting 267 goals from 159 AFL games across eight seasons including playing an integral part in the 2023 premiership.

Seven’s Xander McGuire reports Mihocek will cross to Melbourne on a two-year deal, which is the same length as what the Magpies were offering.

Mihocek originally joined Collingwood in the 2017 rookie draft as a mature-aged player via Port Melbourne and made his AFL debut at age 25.

He led the Pies’ goalkicking in five seasons including the 2023 premiership campaign.

“Brody has played a key role within our football program over the past eight years, and we thank him for his contribution to the black and white,” Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch said.

“We respect Brody’s decision to pursue his free agency rights and explore opportunities at Melbourne.

“We wish him, his partner Polly and their son Arthur all the best for this next chapter. As a 2023 premiership player, Brody will always be a Collingwood person.”

While Mihocek will don the red and blue from next year, the Pies were able to retain fellow veteran forward Jamie Elliott on a two-year deal despite significant interest from Gold Coast.

Elsewhere, Mason Cox and Tom Mitchell’s futures at Olympic Park are still uncertain as they remain without contracts for 2026, while the club has reportedly met with delisted Richmond defender Jacob Blight as it seeks key-defensive reinforcement.

They won’t, however, pursue a trade move for dual All-Australian Melbourne backman Steven May, whose future at the Demons is murky.
