DURHAM, N.C.– The Duke women’s golf tandem of Rylie Heflin and Katie Li recently placed in the top five of their respective state amateur championships.
Heflin, a native of Avondale, Pa., carded rounds of 71, 73 and 73 to finish with a 1-over, 217, to finish third overall at the Pennsylvania Women’s Amateur Championship and earn a $250.00 check. She carded eight birdies over three days. A recent Duke graduate, Heflin won the 2023 amateur at the Sunnehanna Country Club.
Hannah Rabb won the title with a 6-under, 210.
Li, the 2024 New Jersey Golf Women’s Amateur champion, advanced to the finals of the amateur for the second year in a row, but fell in the championship in 2025 with a 7&6 decision against Sarah Shao. A product of Basking Ridge, N.J., Li turned in a 5-under, 67, in stroke-play qualifying to earn the top seed in match play.
The top 16 qualifiers advanced to match play where Li faced Jessica Danckwerth in the round of 16. Danckwerth held a 2UP advantage with four holes remaining, but Li mounted an incredible comeback by winning three out of the final four holes to win, 1UP. Li then defeated Angelina Tolentino in the quarterfinals, 4&3, and then knocked off Reese Hannon, 5&4, in the semifinals to move into the finals. Shao came out though in the finals and jumped out to a quick lead and Li was never able to recover.
