The Australian sharemarket could break a record high as soon as Monday following a positive lead from Wall Street, where investors were emboldened by hopes of lower interest rates despite uncertainty surrounding the US government shutdown.
ASX futures suggest the S&P/ASX 200 Index will open 0.3 per cent on Monday, or 29 points higher, as parts of the country observe a Labour Day holiday. The benchmark closed last week just 32 points shy of its record high of 9019.1, set in late August.
