Netflix has released the trailer for “Train Dreams,” a Joel Edgerton-led drama based on Denis Johnson’s beloved novella that drew rave reviews out of Sundance.

The film is a portrait of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly changing America of the early 20th century. Felicity Jones, Nathaniel Arcand, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, Kerry Condon and William H. Macy also star, while Will Patton narrates.

Directed by Clint Bentley from a script he wrote with Greg Kwedar (the duo last worked together on the Oscar-nominated “Sing Sing”), the film is set to make its international premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. It lands in select theaters on Nov. 7 and premieres on Netflix on Nov. 21.

Variety chief film critic Peter Debruge positively reviewed “Train Dreams” after its Sundance premiere in January, calling Edgerton “the real deal” and dubbing the film “a meditative mosaic, celebrating the Puritan work ethic that shaped this country via the joys and sorrows of an itinerant worker.”

The film features a score composed by Academy Award nominee and Grammy winner Bryce Dessner (“The Two Popes,” “The Revenant”). Adolpho Veloso serves as director of photography, Alexandra Schaller is production designer and Parker Laramie is the film’s editor. Its costuming is by Malgosia Turzanska.

Producers on the film are Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, William Janowitz, Ashley Schlaifer and Michael Heimler, while Edgerton serves as executive producer. The movie was financed and produced by Black Bear.
