TONIGHT’S POSTSEASON TILT…the Mariners and Tigers square off in Game 2 of the American League Division Series tonight, with the Tigers taking a 1–0 series lead last night…tonight’s game will be televised live on FS1 with Adam Amin, A.J. Pierzynski and Adam Wainwright on the call, with Tom Verducci serving as field reporter…the game will broadcast live on Seattle Sports (710 AM) with Rick Rizzs, Aaron Goldsmith and Gary Hill Jr. on the call…the game will also be broadcast live on ESPN Radio with Roxy Bernstein and Gregg Olson on the call.
ODDS AND ENDS…the Mariners dropped Game 1 of the ALDS last night to the Tigers by a 3–2 score in 11 innings…during the regular season, Seattle played 53 one-run games (5th-most in MLB, .585/31–22) and Detroit played 33 (fewest in MLB, .636/21–12).
· Tonight I Bounce Back — Of the 3 ALDS that Seattle has won (1995, 2000, 2001) in franchise history, in 2 of them (’95 and ‘01), Seattle dropped the first game of the series before coming back to win and advance.
· Division Champs — Seattle captured its first AL West Division title in 24 years, and its fourth division title in franchise history (1995, ’97, 2001, ‘25).
· The Skipper — In his first full season as Mariners manager, Dan Wilson led the team to a 90–72 (.556) record and its first AL West Division title since 2001…Wilson is 111–85 (.566) as manager (8/23/24-c).
CAL & JULIO…Cal Raleigh went 3-for-5 and Julio Rodríguez went 3-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBI last night…it marked the sixth time in Mariners Postseason history that a teammate duo recorded 3+ hits in the same game, joining Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez (10/3/1995), Jay Buhner and Edgar Martinez twice (10/4 and 10/8/1995), the trio of Buhner, Martinez and Luis Sojo (10/7/1995), and Raleigh and Adam Frazier (10/8/2022).
SEÑOR SMOKE…All-Star closer Andrés Muñoz tossed a scoreless 9th and 10th inning last night…the 2.0 innings pitched tied a career-high, something Muñoz had not done since July 18, 2019 with the San Diego Padres at Miami, Muñoz’s third career appearance in the Majors.
THE ROSTER…the Mariners 26-man active roster for the ALDS includes 14 position players and 12 pitchers: catchers Harry Ford, Mitch Garver and Cal Raleigh, infielders J.P. Crawford, Josh Naylor, Jorge Polanco, Leo Rivas, Eugenio Suárez and Ben Williamson, outfielders Randy Arozarena, Dominic Canzone, Victor Robles and Julio Rodríguez, and INF/OF Luke Raley…the 12 pitchers include 10 right-handers: Eduard Bazardo, Matt Brash, Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, Emerson Hancock, Luke Jackson, George Kirby, Bryce Miller, Andrés Muñoz and Carlos Vargas, and 2 lefties: Caleb Ferguson and Gabe Speier…nine players from Seattle’s 2022 Postseason run are on this year’s roster: Crawford, Raleigh, Rodríguez and Suárez, and Brash, Castillo, Gilbert, Kirby and Muñoz…the traveling taxi squad will be comprised of 5 players: infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni, infielder Cole Young, along with right-handed pitchers Logan Evans, Casey Legumina and Bryan Woo.
POSTSEASON EXPERIENCE…four players (J.P. · Mariners Record — Cal hit the most home runs in a season by a Mariners player, surpassing Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. (56 HR in 1997 and ‘98).
TREMENDOUS AT T-MOBILE…the Mariners went 51–30 (.630) at T-Mobile Park in the regular season, 2nd-best home record in the American League this season behind Toronto (.667/54–27) and 6th-best home record in the Majors…Seattle’s .630 home winning percentage tied the 1995 season (.630/46–27 at home) for 2nd-best in franchise history, trailing only the 2001 season (.704/57–24 at home).
UNPRECEDENTED POWER AND SPEED…the Mariners offense hit 238 home runs (3rd in MLB) and recorded 161 stolen bases (T-3rd in MLB) during the regular season…the 2025 Mariners are the second team in Major League history to post 230+ homers and 160+ steals, joining the 2023 Tampa Bay Rays (230 HR, 160 SB)…Randy Arozarena and Luke Raley appeared for both teams (2023 TB, 2025 SEA).
