NFL announcer Greg Olsen knows how to stop the troubling trend of players dropping the football before reaching the end zone.

Multiple NFL players have lost control of the football while celebrating a soon-to-be touchdown.

Olsen sounded off on those players on Monday morning, suggesting that they should all be cut.

Greg Olsen knows how to fix the troubling trend of NFL players dropping the football before fully crossing the goal line.

The former Pro Bowl tight end turned Fox Sports announcer sounded off on NFL players who commit this ghastly mistake during an appearance on “Wake Up Barstool” on Monday morning. Multiple NFL players have committed this mistake this season, including Cardinals running back Emari Demercado, who on Sunday dropped the ball right before crossing the end zone on a 76-yard rush. The play would have given Arizona a 27-6 lead over Tennessee, but the touchdown didn’t count. The Titans wound up coming back for a 22-21 win.

Olsen, appearing on “Wake Up Barstool” on Fox Sports 1 on Monday morning, suggested that NFL teams should just cut any player who commits this mistake right away.

“I don’t know why guys have the need to drop the ball,” Olsen said. “If I was a head coach, I’d be like, ‘If you don’t run with the ball to the sideline and keep it tucked until you get there, I’m just gonna cut you.’

“There’s probably a lot of ways you could do it. Everyone says, ‘Oh, cut him.’ But then, it’s like what happens if it’s Derrick Henry? Not that I think he would do it, but there’s always rules for some and not always everybody.”

Olsen believes that another issue is that players spend too much time thinking about their touchdown celebrations.

“I think a big part of this is for a lot of these guys, you see it with a lot of young guys, they spend so much time during the week thinking through if I score, what am I gonna do?” Olsen said. “Run through the end zone, pat your teammates on the helmet, run to the sideline, get your high-fives and go try to win the game. Get ready to go play the next possession. I’m a little bit more old school with that. I have zero patience for the rest of the nonsense.”

The Cardinals running back was simply the latest player to commit this brutal mistake, though perhaps if NFL teams take Olsen’s advice, we’ll have less of these issues moving forward.
