Ipswich Basketball Club broke the news that Mr Linton-Hodges had died on Sunday.

In a statement on social media, the club said: “It is with the deepest sadness that we are sharing the news of the sudden and unexpected passing of Lee Linton-Hodges on Sunday.

“Lee was a massive presence both in the basketball community and beyond and was loved by everyone.”

An instantly recognisable figure standing at nearly seven foot tall, Mr Linton-Hodges represented England at youth level and played for Ipswich Basketball Club for nine seasons between 2004 and 2021.

He had such an impact at Ipswich Basketball Club that the club re-named the Tomcat of the Year Award, which is given every year, the Lee Linton-Hodges Award in 2023.

Essex Rebels, whom he also played for, also shared their condolences, saying: “Lee was a beloved member of the basketball community and had an immeasurable impact both on and off the court.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone at Ipswich Basketball Club.”
