The New York Giants squandered a 14-3 lead on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, committing five straight offensive turnovers — an NFL record — en route to a 26-14 defeat.

It was an ugly and embarrassing twist of fate for the Giants, who had upset the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 and appeared to be getting back on track with a trio of tough games ahead of them.

Instead, the Giants fell to 1-4 on the season and now face the Philadelphia Eagles on short rest this Thursday night, before heading to Colorado for a date with the Denver Broncos in Week 7. After that? Back to the Eagles… In Philadelphia.

As we enter Week 6, here’s a look at where the Giants place in a multitude of power rankings.

After not giving the ball away once in QB Jaxson Dart’s starting debut, they turned it over five times in his road debut … which was (literally) infinitely worse.

When you start a rookie quarterback, there will be games like Sunday. Jaxson Dart accounted for three of the team’s five turnovers. Still, he’s adding some much-needed playmaking to the offense. That’s important for the future. It’s not like the Giants were going to the playoffs anyway.

The Saints may end the season with the NFL’s worst defense, so there’s no good excuse for the awful second half we saw from the Giants. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart started strong, executing the offense efficiently. But after the half, it felt like every troubling habit we’ve seen since his college days came to fruition. Dart looks totally uncomfortable in the pocket, and his inexplicable fumble was probably a product of him trying to make decisions on the fly. When he’s flushed out of the pocket, Dart doesn’t seem to have a plan to get the ball out of his hands safely. Worst of all, he was generally inaccurate against New Orleans, and inaccurate passing is what has plagued New York’s offense over the last few seasons. It’s possible that these are growing pains for a young QB, but these issues could just be part of who he is.

The Giants need to expect Jaxson Dart to be all over the place with his running and passing and the rookie mistakes can also extend to Cam Skattebo. Brian Daboll may not be able to recover from the turnover mess.

Beating the Chargers one week and then losing to the Saints the next is not a good look. They turned it over way too many times.

The fun that rookie QB Jaxson Dart brought in an upset win in Week 4 quickly dissipated with his three turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble) on Sunday, and the running game was stuck in the mud. It’s hard to blame the defense after the offense turned the ball over five times, but that unit, the supposed strength of the team, allowed the Saints to convert seven of 15 third-down attempts.

The win over the Chargers in Jaxson Dart’s debut not longer looks as surprising with the Bolts losing again. And the Giants went back to their usual losing ways against the previously winless Saints. There figures to be a scramble on the coaching carousel for talent. Don’t be the last team on board.

Jaxson Dart looked great in his NFL debut and then made some big plays in his second game. However, he and the Giants forgot what ball security is because they had three lost fumbles in the final 31 minutes of the game, one of which was scooped and scored.

NFL Nation, ESPN: 30 (-3)

The Giants don’t really have a fantasy standout without star receiver Malik Nabers (torn ACL) in the lineup. But with rookie Jaxson Dart at quarterback, (Theo) Johnson has become more of a factor. He had three touchdowns in Dart’s first two starts and had a career-high seven targets in Week 5. Johnson is not a fantasy starter, but he’s a sneaky potential riser with Dart’s ability to see the middle of the field and fit the ball into tight windows.
