Carlisle teenager Carrigan made short work of Polish opponent Dawid Przybylski on his pro debut in Glasgow last weekend.

The 18-year-old, who is on the books of Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, is tipped for big things.

And former undisputed world light-welterweight champion Taylor, who watched Carrigan’s fight in Scotland, feels the Border City Amateur Boxing Club star should be tested in much more competitive fights as soon as possible.

“He was very good and skilful, and looked like he was enjoying himself there,” said Taylor of the young Cumbrian.

“He moved through the gears a bit, then stopped the boy with no problems asked.

“It’s a great debut and a great stage to put his debut on – and I reckon he could be in good, competitive fights now, so he can get fast-tracked into bigger fights very quickly.

“He’s got the talent, that’s for sure, and great amateur experience as well.

“I don’t think we should waste too much time putting him in fights like that. We need to start stepping up the levels pretty quickly.”

Carrigan, who now trains at the Tenacity gym in Hartlepool and is managed by the legendary American Shelly Finkel, defeated Przybylski by TKO (technical knockout) in the first round in Glasgow.

The super-welterweight contest was on the undercard at the Next King of Scotland show.

Carrigan, from Todhills, enjoyed a stellar amateur career whilst with Border City ABC in Carlisle, winning a series of regional, national and European titles as well as becoming World Under-19 champion last year.
