Alex Pereira has done it again as he captured a UFC title for the third time and added Magomed Ankalaev as the sixth former champion at UFC 320. In just four years, the Brazilian powerhouse has achieved what most fighters can only dream of. Beyond his two-division success, Pereira made history by becoming the first fighter in UFC history to hold multiple title reigns across two weight classes. Now, Pereira has his sights set even higher. The newly crowned champ has openly declared his intention to move up to heavyweight and become the first-ever three-division champion in history.
He even called out Jon Jones during the UFC White House event, setting the stage for a potential superfight next year. According to Daniel Cormier, if ‘Poatan’ manages to defeat Jones and add him to his resume, the debate over the greatest of all time would be over, as the crown would belong squarely to Pereira.
Alex Pereira Targeting Jon Jones at UFC White House Could Be His Road to Immortality
For those unaware, Pereira paid a touching tribute to Arthur Jones, who passed away just days before the fight, during his post-fight Octagon interview. The heartfelt gesture toward Jon Jones’ brother reminded fans why the Brazilian is so widely respected, not just for his fighting skills, but for his class and character.
However, he didn’t dwell on emotion for long. Speaking to the UFC broadcast team, he made his intentions crystal clear: he wants to face Jon Jones in a heavyweight superfight at 265 pounds next year. According to Cormier, that matchup would be the toughest test of Pereira’s career, but also his greatest opportunity.
Cormier believes that if Pereira steps up, faces Jones, and somehow defeats him, fans could be witnessing the rise of the new greatest fighter of all time. In an appearance on his YouTube channel, the former double champ said, “The big fight matters to these dudes. Alex is 38 years old and probably thinking at this point, ‘How do I go and make another statement that I am the guy?”
He then added, “Hell, if he went to beat Jon Jones at heavyweight, Alex Pereira, who’s already considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, in the most expedited timeline I have ever seen, would literally cement himself to almost stand above everyone because he would have beaten a former UFC light heavyweight champion and heavyweight champion, and a guy many consider as the greatest of all time.”

Although Jones announced his retirement earlier this year, the consensus MMA GOAT has repeatedly hinted at a potential comeback, specifically targeting the UFC White House card scheduled for June 14, 2026.
However, Dana White hasn’t been too enthusiastic about the idea. Jones’ previous shenanigans and withdrawal derailed the long-awaited Tom Aspinall unification bout, causing major frustration for both the UFC and fans over the past year.

Interestingly, Pereira has made it clear that he isn’t interested in facing the reigning heavyweight champion. And even ‘Bones’ pointed out about facing the Brazilian instead of Aspinall and cited it as a bigger fight for his legacy. The real question now is whether this dream superfight can actually become a reality.
