The EICMA Estoril Round’s final day of action is off and running with the conclusion of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s Warm Up session. Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) topped the session to open Sunday, followed on the timesheet by Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who will next look to replicate their pace in the impending Tissot Superpole Race.
‘El Turco’ started the session hot, his times quickly landing within the low 1’35s, finishing with a 1’35.033s. He will hope that he can keep that speed for the rest of the day as he moves closer to his stated goal ahead of the weekend for an Estoril hat trick. If he’s successful, the 2025 Championship will be all but his. Nicolo Bulega was four tenths slower than his title rival to place second fastest in the short session. Ducati factory teammate Alvaro Bautista finished third quickest on the session, seven tenths off of Razgatlioglu’s time.
Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) was the morning’s fourth fastest, his 1’35.957s time clocking in nine tenths of a second slower than the Defending champion in P1. Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) improved from his Race 1 P11-earning pace to improve to P5, just 0.02s slower than the Englishman. Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) carried the Barni Spark Racing Team flag well to open Sunday as Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) remains injured. The Italian rookie earned the top independent rider in P6.
Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha) was running in the top three positions before a late maelstrom of times poured in, sending the Ulsterman and his 1’36.148s time down to P7. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) followed his teammate on the order as his top lap was +1.219s off of P1. Iker Lecuona led the Honda HRC pair in P9 and P10 as his 1’36.277s was a mere 0.005s faster than Xavi Vierge.
