A man has been arrested after an alleged assault of a man and an attempted kidnapping of a 12-year-old boy on Friday night, 10 October, in Collaroy.

Police say the boy was approached by an unknown man at the intersection of Collaroy Street and Pittwater Road at 8.15pm. The man engaged in a conversation with the child before attempting to lead him away from the area by grabbing his arm.

A 71-year-old relative of the boy intervened but was allegedly punched by the other man leading to the pair falling to the ground with the older man being struck multiple times after.

Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended the scene and arrested a 44-year-old man a short distance away.

He was taken to Manly Police Station and charged with affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm and two counts of common assault. Further charges may still apply.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 12 October 2025).
