There’s a watch on Collingwood premiership star Jordan De Goey as a “wildcard” trade possibility ahead of Wednesday night’s deadline.
The Age reports though De Goey has not been put up for trade, the Magpies would be open to discussing a deal “at the right price.”
With the oldest list in the competition and no first-round pick, Collingwood is reportedly aware of the need to regenerate and views De Goey, 29, as a player with trade currency.

The report states Hawthorn could be a suitor for De Goey if it misses out on Zach Merrett. There were murmurs last week linking St Kilda to De Goey, having previously pursued the midfielder-forward.
It comes after Nine’s Tom Morris reported earlier Collingwood would consider an “excellent deal” for De Goey such as a top 10 draft pick.

“It’s just a name that won’t stop popping up,” Herald Sun reporter Josh Barnes said on Fox Footy’s Trading Day.
“As far as we know, he’s not interested in being traded. As far as we know, officially, Collingwood isn’t interested in trading him. But his name just keeps coming up when you make calls during trade week.
“People say they’re hearing things about him but at the moment there’s nothing concrete to it.
“There were whispers potentially St Kilda was interested, at the moment there’s nothing to that.
“Right now, Jordan De Goey is staying at Collingwood. But Collingwood doesn’t have a pick before No. 39 in the draft at the moment. So if they want to get anybody of worth in, they’re going to have to play with futures or send someone out.”

Kangaroos skipper Jy Simpkin is one of those players Collingwood has been exploring as the midfielder assesses the trade market.
But the Kangaroos have reportedly set a massive price of two first-round picks for Simpkin, who’s on a lucrative salary believed to be worth as much as $1 million for the next four seasons.
It cast doubts around a Simpkin move, unless North lowers its asking price.
“Its seems like their asking price is too steep. Collingwood isn’t going to give two first-round picks for Jy Simpkin, plus he has a pretty hefty salary,” Fox Sports News reporter David Zita said on Trading Day.
“It doesn’t seem like he’s getting much interest at the moment. But this isn’t a situation that’s become untenable and if he went back it would bee awkward.
“This is just something that’s been bubbling away as a possibility and just doesn’t seem like there’s been enough interest — and certainly not enough interest at that price range.”
Brownlow medallist Gerard Healy added of Simpkin: “His problem is if you don’t demand a spot in the midfield of a side on the bottom of the ladder, it’s hard to see how you can demand a huge transfer fee.”
Barnes doesn’t think Collingwood is willing to go over and above to get the 28-year old.
“I’m not sure they’re really investing time in getting recourses for Jy Simpkin,” he said.
“He’s the kind of player that’s a free hit, you get him if you have the pick and it works out for you.
“I don’t think they are working around the clock to get him.
“North Melbourne want to keep him as the captain and he’s a good leader. But realistically, on that salary, they should be happy to let him go.”
