New West Coast Eagles recruit Tylar Young is in celebration mode, jetting off on his honeymoon on the same day as landing at his new club, and just days after getting married.
Young landed at the Eagles on a three-year deal in exchange for Richmond’s pick 38 in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, powered by Tyrepower, and the 27-year-old said he’s still coming to terms with it all.
“I haven’t had a whole lot of time to let it sink in to be honest,” Young said.
“I just got married, so the wedding planning and what-not has been pretty hectic, and tonight we’re going on our honeymoon to Africa, so it’s all sort of happened at the same time.
“I’m glad it’s all done now and sorted, and when we come back from our trip away, I’ll be straight over to Perth to get into it.”
After conversations with the club earlier in the year, Young said he’s relieved to have the trade done and dusted and is looking forward to starting the next phase of his career in WA.
“When the opportunity came up through the year and I started talking to ‘Clarkey’ (Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke) and ‘Mini’ (Andrew McQualter) about it all, I was pretty excited,” Young said.
“To have it all done is really relieving and Abbey and I can’t wait to get over there and see what Perth is like and start our new adventure, we’re super excited.”
The ex-Tiger will link up with a number of familiar faces at the Eagles, after former teammates Liam Baker and Jack Graham joined West Coast at the end of last year.
“When I got to Richmond, they were my age, I was part of the development group, and now I get to be one of the older boys,” Young said.
“I’m keen to hang out with those two, and Tom McCarthy as well, I did a bit of stuff with him during the VFL program, and I obviously know ‘Mini” as well.
“It’s a pretty good little ex-Tiger crew and I’m looking forward to creating some close friendships.”
The 196cm key defender is set to make an immediate impact in the Eagles’ backline next season and is looking forward to suiting up alongside young gun Reuben Ginbey.
“Reuben Ginbey, I’ve heard some pretty good things about him,” Young said.
“I love how he goes about his footy, so keen to work closely alongside him next year.”
