The AusCycling National Selection Panel has today announced the seven athletes that will compete in BMX Freestyle for the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the 2025 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships.

This year’s UCI Urban Cycling World Championships will take place from November 4-8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and features BMX Freestyle Park, BMX Freestyle Flatland, and Observed Trials.

Reigning world champion Logan Martin will return to defend his crown.

The triple world champion made history last year by becoming the first BMX freestyle rider ever to win the rainbow jersey three times.

Joining Martin is former world champion and current national champion Brandon Loupos who is set to compete in his first world championships since 2022. He will be looking to emulate his success of 2019 and 2018, where he won gold and bronze respectively.

Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Natalya Diehm and Sarah Nicki both bring plenty of experience to the team.

Diehm, a five-time national champion, is a consistent performer on the world stage and will be looking to better her 9th last year in Abu Dhabi.

And at just 18 years old, it will be Nicki’s fourth world championships.

Samual Grace and Xavier Gilbee will both make their debut in the green and gold jersey in Riyadh. Grace was also selected last year but did not compete due to injury, while rising talent Gilbee has impressed selectors to earn his spot on the team this year.

Alec Danelutti rounds out this year’s squad, returning for his fourth world championships in strong form ready to show what he is capable of.

AusCycling Head Coach Acceleration and Action Eric Haakonssen said: “This squad blends proven class – Olympic and World Championship medallists – with hungry emerging talent. I’m proud of their resilience this year with several overcoming significant adversity.

“While only two women are selected this year, we have a clear plan to fast-track an exciting, young cohort who’ll be a real force in the years ahead.”

The team was selected according to the AusCycling selection policy.
