Leek Aleer has signed a new two-year deal with the GIANTS.
The GIANTS are pleased to announce that exciting young key defender Leek Aleer has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2027 AFL season.
Originally taken by the club with pick 15 in the 2021 AFL Draft, Aleer has continued to develop his craft over the last four seasons and is seen as a key part of the GIANTS’ exciting young core.
Born in Kenya to South Sudanese parents, Aleer’s journey to the AFL level is one of determination and resilience and his new two-year deal is just reward for his talent and hard work as he continues to develop into a vital part of the club’s future.
Aleer produced a strong year of development throughout 2025 where starring performances for the club’s VFL side in the front half of the year saw him break into the AFL team in round 11 where he would go on to play in 13 of the club’s final 14 games to further display his undeniable talent.
Still just 24 years old, Aleer’s combination of raw athleticism, aerial ability, and growing defensive craft make him one of the club’s most exciting developing prospects.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said Aleer’s new deal was reward for years of hard work.
“We’re thrilled to have Leek commit to the club for the next two seasons. He’s a player we’ve invested in and one we believe has a bright future in the game,” McCartney said.
“As a developing key defender, Leek brings elite athleticism, aerial ability, and a desire to improve each time he takes to the field.
“While in recent weeks there’s been discussion around where his future lies, we have always been steadfast in the fact that Leek is a highly valued player and person at the GIANTS and we’re thrilled to have him on board through to 2027 and we believe he’ll continue to grow into a key part of our backline for years to come.”
Aleer’s re-signing adds to the growing list of GIANTS to recommit in 2025, including Finn Callaghan, Connor Idun, Aaron Cadman, Xavier O’Halloran, Darcy Jones, Jack Buckley, Ryan Angwin, and Toby McMullin.
