Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz can only be matched by one player – Novak Djokovic.

That’s according to former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic as the latest star duo in men’s tennis remain on course for icon status.

Sinner won his fourth Grand Slam singles title earlier in the month at Wimbledon by beating Alcaraz, who has five major wins to his name.

The pair have done so by the ages of 23 and 22-years-old respectively ahead of what could be the next long-term rivalry.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal iconically battled throughout their legendary careers, and Djokovic later joined them in the ‘Big Three’.

And his former coach Ivanisevic believes he is the only player who can go toe-to-toe with Sinner and Alcaraz in the modern game.

“This was a one-way final,” he said when speaking about Sinner’s 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 Wimbledon final victory during an interview with Gol.

“Sinner was better and in my opinion he is currently a slightly better player than Alcaraz.

“The two of them are five spears ahead of everyone else.

“The only one who can maybe fight with them is Novak Djokovic, but the others don’t have a chance.”

Sinner and Alcaraz occupy the top two spots in the ATP rankings with Alexander Zverev sitting behind them in third.

Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper are fourth and fifth ahead of Djokovic, but Ivanisevic seemingly doesn’t think they can rival the duo.

Ivanisevic, who has just parted with Stefanos Tsitsipas, coached Djokovic from 2019 until 2024.

The Serbian won nine of his record 24 Grand Slam men’s singles titles during their five-year partnership.

Djokovic has won 100 singles titles overall, the third most in the Open Era behind Jimmy Connors on 109 and Federer on 103.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz have contested the former world no. 1, with the former having more success with six wins from ten matches.

The latter has beaten Djokovic three times from eight meetings.

However, despite defeat at Wimbledon, Alcaraz has won against his Italian rival Sinner on eight occasions.

This year’s French Open final in particular, in which he came from two sets down to win, showcased their world-class qualities.

Even though they’re fierce competitors on the court, they maintain a strong relationship off it.

The friendship between Sinner and Alcaraz

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Alcaraz insisted there is equal admiration between him and Sinner amid their entertaining clashes.

“Tennis is a unique sport that allows you to be great rivals on the court and, at the same time, maintain mutual respect,” he said.

“Sinner and I are good friends; we can talk about many things off the court. I have great respect for him, he’s a great person.

“I’m sure we’ll always be able to maintain this relationship.”

“It’s a great thing for our sport,” he added on their rivalry. “Because it encourages people to watch and play tennis.

“Our matches, like the latest ones at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, are always highly anticipated.

“The more matches we play against each other, the more people we will involve in this sport.

“Also because every time we face each other we both push ourselves beyond our limits.”
