Stocks log longest weekly losing streak of 2025 as IT, midcaps drag
The Nifty closed sharply lower on Friday, with the benchmark indexes logging their fourth straight weekly loss, marking the longest losing streak so far in 2025, as persistent selling in information technology and midcap stocks weighed on sentiment. The blue-chip Nifty 50 fell 225 points, or 0.9%, to end at 24,837, its lowest close in a month. The Sensex dropped 721 points to 81,463. For the week, the Nifty lost 0.5%, its fourth straight weekly loss – the first such stretch since October 2024.
Electronics manufacturing: India to have greater engagement with China, can’t avoid
India’s electronics industry needs greater engagement and flexibility with China to grow domestic capacities, that’s the word coming from senior government officials. Sources told CNBC-TV18 that the only caveat is that India will need to be strategic while engaging with Beijing. Sources within the government confirmed that over 60% of global electronics manufacturing is based in China. They shared that collaboration with Chinese entities cannot be avoided if India is to successfully grow its electronics ecosystem.

School roof collapses in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar: 7 children dead, rescue on for trapped students
At least seven children were killed in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan on Friday (July 25) after a roof of a school building collapsed. Many students were injured in the incident. The accident happened at Piplodi Government School in Manoharthana block of Jhalawar district, while students were attending the morning classes. About 60-70 students were in the school at the time, out of which seven have been declared dead by the medical authorities, reported News18 Hindi.

India blocks 25 OTT platforms for streaming obscene content
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered a sweeping crackdown on 25 OTT platforms accused of promoting obscene, vulgar, and in some cases pornographic content, citing violations of the IT Act and other Indian laws. The move, executed in consultation with key ministries and legal bodies, will result in the blocking of websites and the disabling of mobile apps associated with these platforms.
