The AFL’s trade period might be over, but emerging Gold Coast superstar Bailey Humphrey has dropped a spicy postscript on a week or so of controversy.
Humphrey created a stir during the trade period as he shopped himself around in Victoria despite his contract with the Suns.
Humphrey’s manager Michael Oakes was also under fire after saying that his young client had not spoken to anyone … only to be caught out hours later when a photo emerged showing Humphrey meeting with Melbourne coach Stephen King and assistant Nathan Jones.

Humphrey then stirred the pot again when he posted a series of photos on social media to the tune of John Denver’s classic hit Country Roads, Take Me Home with the simple caption: ‘I’M FROM MOE’ (referencing a viral moment from the Street Talk segment on former AFL program The Footy Show).
Of course, Gold Coast had no interest in letting Humphrey (who is contracted until the end of 2028) go but the story doesn’t appear to be quite over yet.
Now another photo has emerged of Humphrey rubbing shoulders with Melbourne interim president Brad Green.

But unlike the first photo (where Humphrey was busted with the Demons coaches) the 21-year-old was happy to pose with Green while enjoying a drink at the Caulfield Cup on Saturday.
Even more remarkable, Green and his TV star partner Caty Price then shared the photo on their social media platforms, with the caption saying: “Thanks Carlton Draught. Great day with Bailey Humphrey, Caty Price.”
If Melbourne were to secure Humphrey at some point, he would be considered a replacement for Christian Petracca who has just left the Demons to join Gold Coast.
In fact, Petracca said on Friday that Humphrey reminded him of a younger version of himself, while adding that he could not wait to see how they can paired together.
Petracca, 29, also revealed that he had been on the phone with his talented new teammate after sealing a trade north this week.
“I’m incredibly excited to work with someone like him,” Petracca said.
“He reminds me of myself when I was at that age. Raw, but he came fourth in the best and fairest too, so basically a breakout year – which is pretty scary considering how many more levels he can go to.
“We had a phone call the other day about his role and how excited I am to just play with him and learn actually off him about that role and how explosive he is.
“We’ve actually been in contact for three or four years now.
“I think because from his draft year, when I saw the highlights of him, he reminded me of myself a little bit and just how raw he is, and explosive.”
