See what Head Coach Tam Hyett had to say after the Dogs impressive win over the Suns
By Western Bulldogs Media
It was a victory to remember for many reasons when the Dogs recorded a dominant 66-point win over the Suns in Round 10.
The second-highest score in team history, the first-ever time the Dogs have kept an opposition goalless and the first win interstate since Tam Hyett took the reigns as Head Coach.
Here’s what Hyett had to say following the win.
On the team’s first insterstate win under Hyett:
“The two years I’ve been involved, we haven’t won on the road – interstate.
“That’s really exciting. It’s always a good challenge to get together and get on the road, and to come away with the win was really nice.”
On the third-quarter dominance:
“The first quarter, the Suns kind of led us to the ball. We were probably a little bit disappointed with that in the first quarter.
“We reset after quarter-time. The third quarter we started to click and capitalise on our moments. That was really good.”
On Emma McDonald:
“She works really hard.
“For a first-year player, she’s like a sponge.
“She’s had some really good education through ‘Killer’, our forwards coach, and those other players around her assist as well.
“She’s just a raw talent. It’s really exciting to see her putting some consistency together with her games. She’s having a good season.”
On the team’s energy and ability to execute the game plan:
“I thought our ball movement was good. On the back of last year, that was the real priority for us – to get our ball movement right.
“That takes time. I think I spoke about that last week. To be able to add layers to your game and get a little bit more run and carry, and create a few more handball receives – that allows us then to get deeper entries.
“We feel like we’re a threat forward one-on-one.
“Our ability to move the ball with speed assists that.”
On the approach to this game:
“We’ve got a four-round focus, so we started last week and that was almost our qualifying final. Today was our elimination final.
“We think, if we can continue to get better and play the style of game and our method that we’ve been working on, we’ll win games.
“That’s all we’re asking – to turn up, play our style, and that gives us our best opportunity to win games.
“Then, things take care of themselves.
“We were really deliberate to frame this as our final series – the last four rounds.
“I think it’s a good way to put a little bit more pressure on the players, and hopefully that holds them in good stead down the track.”
