The Seattle Seahawks are in control at halftime against the Houston Texans, leading 14-6. That score isn’t fully indicative of how thoroughly they’ve dominated the first 30 minutes of action due to Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp throwing an interception just outside the red zone in the second quarter and a blocked field goal with 14 seconds left in the half.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold (134 yards and a touchdown on 9 of 15 passing) thoroughly outplayed Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud (106 yards on 11 of 18 passing) in the first half. The Seattle lead would likely be much wider if the Seahawks kept the game on Darnold’s right arm instead of getting Kupp involved as a passer. Stroud’s stat line also doesn’t include his fumble on a strip sack by Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones IV that was nullified by defensive holding.
These two teams entered Monday night with two of the NFL’s best defenses, and that was indicative with how the first half went overall. Seattle outgained Houston, 188 to 103, in total yards and easily could have had two more points. Stroud’s knee appeared to go down in the end zone on a sack, which would have resulted in a safety, but the officials ruled his forward progress was stopped at the one-inch line.Â
