A disgruntled owner can have the length of a disqualification reduced if he agrees to undergo anger management counselling.

Former AFL player Jason Love has been banned for four months over “improper, threatening and insulting language” following a race at Randwick in October.

Love is a part-owner of Sydney Bowler and his tirade was directed at the horse’s co-trainer Tom Charlton.

Sydney Bowler finished third as a $6.50 chance.

A Racing NSW hearing was told Love continued the outburst while pointing his finger in the face of Charlton, saying: “You will be next, keep smiling.”

Love pleaded guilty to two charges and was handed a four-month ban.

Stewards have agreed to vary the penalty to three months if Love undertakes anger management sessions with a registered medical practitioner.
