Lorenzo Musetti is keeping his eye on both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev at the moment.

Musetti has enjoyed the best year of his career in 2025, particularly during the clay court season where he reached the Monte Carlo Masters final, and the semifinals of Roland Garros, the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.

After reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open for the first time, the Italian was looking to continue his progress in Asia, but Musetti was criticised for his behaviour in China.

Musetti has now returned to Europe, but he has admitted he now has his eyes on Brussels champion Auger-Aliassime and Almaty Open winner Medvedev.

Due to his impressive season in 2025, Musetti has put himself in contention for the ATP Finals in Turin.

Musetti currently holds a position that would see him qualify for the year-end tournament, but he has suggested that he is feeling vulnerable with rival players currently closing down on him.

“It’s not a comfortable position I would say, and of course the guys who are besides me they are playing good,” Musetti told the ATPTour.com ahead of the Vienna Open. “Unfortunately they are playing really good.

“Of course they are getting closer, and that of course gives a little bit of pressure. Unfortunately the last two tournaments didn’t go really, really well, so I might have lost a little bit of chance to take some advantage, but of course we are here in Vienna and I want to play match by match and don’t think too much about points, about maths, honestly.”

Musetti was then asked more specifically about Auger-Aliassime and Medvedev, who he admitted he is worried about.

The world number eight also mentioned Holger Rune, who suffered a serious injury last week, with Musetti wishing him well in his recovery.

“Yeah, of course they are in the conversation,” responded Musetti. “Holger was in the conversation, but unfortunately as we saw big injury in Stockholm, so I wish him of course good luck for coming back, I know that he’ll be coming back stronger for sure. But, he was playing really well, so them I feel that they are the players to worry about.”

Can Lorenzo Musetti qualify for the ATP Finals in Vienna?

The race to the ATP Finals is really heating up, with only Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic confirming their qualification so far.

Despite qualifying, Djokovic’s participation at the ATP Finals is actually still in doubt, with the 38-year-old withdrawing from the tournament last year due to his much more limited schedule at this latter stage in his career.

Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton also look to be in strong positions, but there is a real battle for places between the likes of Alex de Minaur, Musetti, Auger-Aliassime, Stockholm Open champion Casper Ruud and Medvedev.

As is the case with Rune, Jack Draper has also ended his season due to an arm injury and will not be a factor in the race to the ATP Finals anymore.
