It was a tightly contested opening 20 minutes, with the Tigers having the best scoring chance of the period as Taylan May went agonisingly close to scoring against his former team.

The visitors were first on the board through a penalty goal, but it was all the Panthers from that point as some slick ball-playing from Isaah Yeo saw Lindsay Smith stretch out to score in the 24th minute.

That lead quickly extended out to 10 points as a quick play-the-ball from Izack Tago saw Penrith capitalise on a disjointed Tigers’ right edge defence, with Casey McLean crossing five minutes later.

A Liam Martin error and six-again soon after gifted the Tigers a chance to close the gap right before halftime, but instead it was the Panthers who scored a long-range stunner from inside their own 20 to land a hammer blow at the death.

However, there was a major question mark over the Nathan Cleary pass that put McLean away before he found his halfback, who then linked with Dylan Edwards trailing in support for the try.

Cleary kicked all three conversions, taking up goal-kicking duties again in a strong sign that the Panthers superstar is back to full health.
