Leigh Leopards forward Owen Trout is already dreaming of testing himself in the NRL as he prepares for what could be his England debut in the upcoming Ashes series against Australia.
The 24-year-old joined Leigh from Huddersfield Giants ahead of the 2024 campaign on a three-year deal and quickly became one of the club’s most influential players. His impressive form throughout 2025 earned him a place in Shaun Wane’s 24-man England squad for the historic three-Test series, and now, the prospect of facing the world’s best has only fuelled bigger ambitions.
“I’d love to go over there and have a crack”
Speaking to Love Rugby League, Trout revealed that a move Down Under is something he hopes to pursue later in his career.
“I’d love to go over there (to Australia) and have a crack,” he said. “I’m contracted with Leigh next year, so that’s my main focus, but it’ll be a good step in the right direction if I do get a chance to play against the Aussies (in the Ashes).”
He added: “I suppose I’ll know how I’d fare really in the NRL (after the Ashes). I’m really looking forward to it. When you start playing against the best, it brings out the best in you as well.”
Off-contract at the end of 2026, Trout will be eligible to negotiate with other clubs from December 1 that year. But for now, his focus remains firmly on representing his country and continuing his rise with the Leopards.
