The Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames played the first few minutes of their game Wednesday night under some darkness because of a lighting issue at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The game was delayed by at least 10 minutes as several main lights in the arena wouldn’t turn on. Both teams decided to play on under secondary lighting only before the main lights eventually returned minutes into the contest. No official reason has been given as to why the lighting issue occurred.

This is the second time this season a lighting issue has affected a game. Last week, the lighting at United Center in Chicago went dark for about four seconds in the opening period during a game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Utah Mammoth.
The Scotiabank Saddledome has been the home for the Calgary Flames since October 1983 and is the NHL’s second-oldest building behind Madison Square Garden in New York City, home of the New York Rangers. The Flames are projected to move into Scotia Place, which is currently under construction, once it’s completed in time for the 2027-28 NHL season.
The Flames, meanwhile, are still searching for their first win at home after starting their season 1-6-0. Their lone victory came in their first game of the season, a 4-3 shootout win over the Edmonton Oilers in Edmonton back on Oct. 8. The Canadiens are seeking their sixth win in seven games.
