It wouldn’t be a UFC fight week without someone catching some heat. Former two-weight world champion and current UFC commentator, Daniel Cormier has been caught discussing the heavyweight division with current champion, Tom Aspinall… and to say that he doesn’t think highly of the division is an understatement. Aspinall released footage to his YouTube channel, which saw DC not shroud the division in any gold to say the least.

Taking Aspinall to one side, Daniel Cormier said:
“With these match-ups in this division, what type of run you can go on, could be crazy and it might change your life”.

We know that the heavyweight division doesn’t have a rich history of a long-time champion making multiple defences. Former champion, Stipe Miocic, holds the heavyweight record with just three. Cormier is implying that Aspinall has the chance to go on and potentially beat that record.

Daniel Cormier Slams Jailton Almeida

Continuing his conversation with the heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier went on to say:
“I mean what is it, Almeida is fighting erm, Jailton can’t fight”.

When asked by Aspinall who DC thought would win, he didn’t give an answer. Aspinall said he believed Alexander Volkov would win the fight and Cormier replied stating, “Yeah but you beat him”.

He also said:
“You’re on the verge of some crazy sh*t man. Lock in, keep working hard though, you’ve got to keep working hard”.

Aspinall reassured DC that he’s “working harder now than I ever was“.

Towards the end of the exchange, Daniel Cormier and Tom Aspinall appeared to poke fun at former opponent Volkan Oezdemir. Aspinall joked saying that DC “Couldn’t believe your luck” when he was matched with Oezdemir, to which both men laughed and DC replied with “Did I win the lottery son?”.

UFC 321

UFC 321 goes down this weekend from Abu Dhabi, UAE. The headline fight will see Tom Aspinall meet Ciryl Gane for the UFC heavyweight championship in a fight that many are seeing as an intriguing match-up. Both men are quick, light on their feet, and questions will be answered on Saturday night.

The co-main event sees the vacant strawweight title on the line in a rematch between Mackenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba. Dern got the nod in the first fight, however, Jandiroba is coming into the fight in better form.

Elsewhere, Mario Bautista and Umar Nurmagomedov meet at bantamweight for a potential number one contender’s fight. Jailton Almeida and Alexander Volkov also meet in an exciting heavyweight clash.
