Brunp achieves recovery rates of 99.6 percent for nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and 96.5 percent for lithium from recycled power batteries.
In 2024, Brunp processed over 120,000 tons of waste batteries, equivalent to reusing batteries from up to 300,000 EVs.

CATL (HKG: 3750) subsidiary Brunp Recycling achieved a 99.6 percent recovery rate for nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and a 96.5 percent recovery rate for lithium from recycled power batteries, the Chinese power battery giant said today.

CATL said on Weibo that Brunp achieved these recycling rates through proprietary DRT (Directional Recycling Technology), utilizing processes including intelligent disassembly, hydrometallurgy, and material restoration.

In 2024, Brunp processed over 120,000 tons of waste batteries and 17,100 tons of recycled lithium salts, according to CATL.

After waste material removal, based on an average battery weight of 300 kilograms per electric vehicle (EV), Brunp’s annual processing capacity enables the reuse of batteries from 200,000 to 300,000 EVs, Science and Technology Daily noted in a report today.

This alleviates China’s reliance on imported nickel, cobalt, and lithium resources while promoting the regeneration of strategic materials, CATL said.

Headquartered in Foshan, Guangdong, Brunp is the world’s largest battery recycling company, established in 2005.

Originally a consumer lithium battery company, Brunp shifted its focus to power battery recycling in 2011.

In 2015, CATL became Brunp’s controlling shareholder.

To date, Brunp has led or participated in developing over 80 percent of China’s national standards for lithium battery recycling, CATL said.

Beyond setting power battery recycling standards, Brunp has supported 18 standards committees in researching battery recycling protocols across sectors including non-ferrous metals, chemical disposal, automotive, chemistry, and logistics.
