After a long gap between FIFA international windows, the Ford Football Ferns are back in action for a busy end to 2025 which sees Aotearoa face Mexico, USA, and Australia in the next two months.Â
First up it is a two-match series against World No. 29 Mexico, who are coming into the games in good form with six wins, two draws, and one defeat so far in 2025.Â
Traditionally a strong attacking side, it is El Tri Femenil’s defensive record that has been impressive this year with only four goals conceded in nine games.Â
The Ford Football Ferns are also in good form as head coach Michael Mayne looks to continue to implement changes to the side on and off the pitch as the team builds toward FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying in early 2026, most notably moving to a back three to get the best out of the playing group.
The last time the teams faced each other the Ferns claimed a 1-0 in LA. A repeat performance in Mexico City would be a great way to kick off the tour.Â
Who is likely to make Michael Mayne’s starting line-up?
Head coach Michael Mayne confirmed that all of his players trained and are ready to play should they be selected.
There will be competition across the group to be one of the three starting defenders, with six players in the squad able to play there, including Mackenzie Barry and Katie Bowen who weren’t part of the last camp.
Gabi Rennie, also back in the squad and in good form for club side Eskilstuna United DFF, will be keen to push Milly Clegg and Kelli Brown to start up top.Â
Lara Wall, called up for her first camp, and Rebecca Lake, are yet to make their Ford Football Ferns debuts so will be eager to get on the pitch if given the chance.Â
Player to watch: Diana Ordóñez
With two goals in the last three games, the Tigres UANL forward is a player in form for her country.Â
The 24-year-old US-born Ordóñez played for the USWNT at U-17,U-19, and U-20 level before switching to Mexico and hasn’t looked back.
