The Gold Coast SUNS AFLW squad cheered students through the gates of Broadbeach State School on Friday morning as part of International Walk to School Month.
The annual global celebration encourages students to travel actively to school throughout the month of October, championing health and well-being as well as education on road safety and best practices around roads.
The initiative aligns strongly with the SUNS who have partnered with Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and its road safety and public education program StreetSmarts since 2021, most recently extending its partnership for a further three years as SUNS Academy Major Partner.
Young Gold Coasters walking and wheeling to school had the chance to meet their AFLW heroes and SUNS mascots, grab an autograph and chat all things footy before the SUNS final home game this Sunday afternoon.
2025 SUNS debutant Broadbeach Cats junior Tara Harrington enjoyed celebrating local students and shared how full circle Round 11 was shaping up to be.
“It was a fun morning meeting young fans and a great opportunity for us to encourage students to be active and road safe on their journey to school,” the StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate said.
“We can’t wait to see them all cheering us on at the game this weekend.
“Playing our last home game at Bond Uni is really special too. I made plenty of memories there when I played QAFLW, and to now run out at Bond with some of the same girls for the Gold Coast SUNS is a dream come true.”
The SUNS are set to take on Collingwood at Bond University this Sunday from 3:05pm AEST.
Cheer on the SUNS and revel in all the free family fun at the AFLW this weekend. U18s go free!
