Georgios Bartzokas: I think I really now my job

Georgios Bartzokas praises Olympiacos players and fans after their dominant Euroleague win over Bayern Munich.

Olympiacos showed its power in Munich, delivering an impressive 96–71 victory over Bayern in the 6th round of the Euroleague. After the final buzzer, coach Georgios Bartzokas expressed complete satisfaction with his players and took a moment to thank the passionate Olympiacos supporters who made their presence felt in Germany.

During the press conference, Bartzokas stated: “We are always in the market because that is our job. Bayern got Dinwiddie. We have a large roster because this is the new era in the Euroleague. For us, it is important to have all our players on the court. So far, we have had many absences. We have to make decisions, watching our game, training, all together. We had Papanikolaou and Evans out. We do not have a clear picture of the roster, as we have not all played together.”

When asked about possible transfers, the Olympiacos coach clarified his stance: “In my country, the discussion is about adding another scorer. We have Fournier, Dorsey, and Vezenkov, and they want to add another scorer. That’s one view. We scored 100 points. I think I really know my job. I’m not against signing a player, but I’m going to sign a player that the whole team believes will help in the next games – not someone the media or social media wants.”

Speaking earlier to Euroleague TV, Bartzokas also praised the fans who traveled to support the team: “We were very solid offensively and defensively. This time in the Euroleague we had almost the entire roster, except for our captain, Kostas Papanikolaou. We had better organization in the playmaker. I think the most important thing for us was the support from our fans. It was incredible – I feel grateful, as if we were playing in SEF.”

Reflecting on his team’s improvement after last week’s win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, he concluded: “This is the process. The challenge. To get better, game by game. Whoever is on our team has to improve every day. We believe in our team. We are a big club in Europe. We are happy.”
