The Finals Day was held in Kettering last weekend and young Hashim earned his 60 to 63kg title the hard way by fighting his way through every regional champion without any byes or step-asides.

Along the way, he defeated top boxers from Yorkshire, the North West and the East Midlands, among others.

In the final, he took on Theo Jones-Lambert, from Centurions Amateur Boxing Club in Colchester.

And Hashim came out on top, securing his gold medal victory via unanimous decision.

This remarkable achievement has brought immense pride to both Bradford and his gym, Aztec Boxing Club on Fairbank Road, just off Toller Lane.

The fact Hashim has been able to showcase the city’s boxing talent on a national stage at such a young age is a real feather in his cap.

Coach Mo Ali, who founded Aztec ABC alongside Amir Hussain, expressed his pride in the youngster’s dedication and commitment.

He said: “I’m just so proud of the sacrifice, commitment, and hard work Harris has put in since August preparing for these championships.

“He’s made everyone proud and put our home city on the national stage by winning gold.

“This gives me hope for the youth of Bradford, as we have all the opportunities out there to achieve great things as long as we put in the work, whether that’s in school, college, or university.”

And the good news keeps on coming for Hashim, whose national success has opened up further doors for him.

He is now ranked as number one in his division and he will be selected as part of the England Boxing Team.

This will give him the chance to showcase his talent and aim for selection in the next Olympic Games, which take place in Los Angeles in 2028.

Coach Ali enthused: “My dream is to see an Olympic gold medallist from our hometown and that’s now the goal.”
