New South Wales leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has been added to Australia’s squad for the T20 series against India with fellow tweaker Adam Zampa set to miss the start of the series due to personal reasons.

On Monday morning, Cricket Australia confirmed Sangha will join the Australia squad in Canberra ahead of Wednesday’s series opener against the reigning T20 World Cup champions at Manuka Oval.

The 23-year-old has not played a T20I since 2023, taking ten wickets at 24.90 across seven matches. He claimed career-best figures of 4-31 on international debut against South Africa in Durban in August 2023.

Sangha is currently the leading wicket-taker of the One-Day Cup with ten scalps at 14.10 for the Blues. He also impressed during the recent Australia tour of India, taking seven wickets across three List A matches in Kanpur.

Zampa missed last weekend’s ODI series opener against India in Perth as precautionary paternity leave, with his wife expecting their second child.

Having been named in the initial T20 squad, spinner Matthew Kuhnemann is expected to replace Zampa in the Australian starting XI for the Wednesday’s match, which gets underway at 7.15pm AEDT.

Elsewhere, CA announced mass changes to Australia’s T20 squad last week. Injured duo Glenn Maxwell and fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis will return to the national set-up next week, joining the Australian camp from game three and game four respectively, while West Australian quick Mahli Beardman, who recently turned 20, will replaced Test quick Josh Hazlewood after game two.

Blues seamer Sean Abbott, currently undergoing a mandatory 12-day stand-down after damaging his hand during last week’s match against Victoria in Melbourne, will leave the T20 squad after game three so he can play the fourth round of the Sheffield Shield, suggesting he’s in the frame for an Ashes call-up.

NSW wicketkeeper Josh Philippe who impressed during the first ODI against India, has also been added to the national T20 squad.
