Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani didn’t let the chants from Toronto Blue Jays fans phase him during the first two games of the World Series.
The home crowd at Roger Centre tried to stick it to Ohtani with chants of “We don’t need you!” in reference to his free-agency decision from two years ago to sign with the Dodgers over the Blue Jays, who were one of his other top suitors.
Per The Athletic’s Katie Woo, Ohtani embraced the barbs and said his wife, Mamiko, didn’t mind them, either.
“It was a really great chant, and my wife really appreciated it,” Ohtani said with a smile through team interpreter Will Ireton.
Ohtani hit his first career World Series home run in the Dodgers’ Game 1 loss and scored a run in their Game 2 victory to even things at 1-1 as the series heads back to Los Angeles. He will be the starting pitcher in Tuesday’s Game 4.
Blue Jays fans will surely be hoping for the chance to let Ohtani have it once again if the team is able to survive the next three road games and bring the series back to Toronto.
