As part of a sweeping coaching restructure, the Manly Sea Eagles have made another significant appointment, naming former NRL halfback Brett Kimmorley as head coach of their NSW Cup team for next season.

The 49-year-old enjoyed a stellar NRL career, playing 307 games as a halfback for clubs including the Newcastle Knights, Melbourne Storm, Cronulla Sharks, and Canterbury Bulldogs.

Over a 16-year career, he established himself as a decorated star, playing in Melbourne Storm’s 1999 premiership-winning side (earning the Clive Churchill Medal), representing New South Wales 10 times, and donning the Australian jersey 15 times, including at the 2000 World Cup.

After his distinguished first-grade career, Kimmorley moved into coaching, including a stint as interim head coach of the Wests Tigers NRL side following Michael Maguire’s departure in 2022.

He also served as head coach of the Wests Tigers NRLW team for their inaugural season before stepping down in September following a challenging campaign that produced just one win.

Having played 26 first-grade games for the North Eagles, Kimmorley will return to 4 Pines Park, joining a revamped coaching structure under head coach Anthony Siebold.

The Sea Eagles head coach has spearheaded an off-season overhaul, already bringing club legend Kieran Foran on board as an assistant coach, who will assume his role after fulfilling commitments with New Zealand at the Pacific Championships.

The Manly NSW Cup team faced a challenging season in their first year back under the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles banner since 2016, finishing 11th with nine wins, 15 losses, and two draws.
