Channel 10 Escapes Paramount Job Cuts as Network Eyes Bright 2026

While Paramount undergoes major layoffs across its US operations, staff at Channel 10 have been told the Australian network will remain largely untouched by the restructuring.

Network sources tell TV Blackbox that employees at the local broadcaster were reassured today that no significant changes are planned, despite widespread job losses overseas.

The global reshuffle was confirmed in an internal staff email obtained by this website titled “tough day”, which was distributed overnight from CEO David Ellison, who outlined plans to “reduce the size of our workforce” as part of efforts to “position Paramount for long-term success.”

“We want to be as open and direct as possible about the reasons behind these changes,” Ellison wrote.

“In some areas, we are addressing redundancies that have emerged across the organisation.

In others, we are phasing out roles that are no longer aligned with our evolving priorities and the new structure designed to strengthen our focus on growth.

Ultimately, these steps are necessary to position Paramount for long-term success.”

Around 1,000 positions are expected to be affected across Paramount’s global operations this week, but insiders say Channel 10 will avoid direct impact.

One staff member told TV Blackbox that those who have remained at the network through earlier rounds of redundancies have already “endured enormous change.”

“There are no more jobs left to cut; only dedicated staff work tirelessly to keep the network running and the lights on,” the insider said.

While the US parent is grappling with corporate change following Ellison’s takeover in August, morale at the Australian arm is said to be “mostly positive.”

Channel 10 is focused on finishing 2025 on a strong note, with the highly anticipated return of Big Brother to its original home and the premiere of new scripted comedy series Ghosts Australia.

The network is also gearing up for its 2026 Upfronts presentation on Wednesday, to be held inside the new Big Brother house on the Gold Coast, where it will unveil its 2026 programming slate — including the return of Millionaire Hot Seat and Celebrity Traitors Australia.

In recent years, Channel 10 has also restored local news presentation across all capital cities, signalling a renewed commitment to Australian content and regional presence.

Meanwhile, The Australian’s Media Diary published a story on Monday suggesting that Beverley McGarvey, President of Paramount ANZ, was being considered as a frontrunner to replace James Taylor as the new SBS Managing Director. However, TV Blackbox understands it is early days in the process with the position being advertised only last week.
