After an anticlimactic PPV in Abu Dhabi, the octagon returns to the comfortable confines of the Apex Center in the fight capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada, and 26 athletes have been called upon, from the biggest on the roster (men’s heavyweight), to the smallest on the roster (women’s strawweight). The proceedings will begin with a heavy emphasis on WMMA, as three of the first four prelims will be contested in the women’s divisions.

UFC Fight Night – Garcia vs. Onama Talita Alencar ($9,000) vs. Ariane Carnelossi ($7,200)
Fight Odds: -230 Alencar vs. +184 Carnelossi
Weight Class: 115lb. (Women’s Strawweight)

Talita Alencar (2-1) has a limited skill set, but I think it should be potent enough to defeat Ariane Carnelossi (3-2 UFC). Although both of these women are listed as coming off a win, it would be more accurate to describe Carnelossi’s last fight as Piera Rodriguez’s loss. Rodriguez took Carnelossi down late in round 1 after outstriking her on the feet. She was cruising towards the win after hurting Carnelossi and taking her down in round 2, but the fight ended when Rodriguez inexplicably headbutted Carnelossi when she already looked ready to quit. Carnelossi couldn’t continue, and the intentional headbutts were declared a disqualification.
Carnelossi likes to bully her opponents, but she has only been able to do so against low-end girls in the division with losing records like Na Liang (0-4 UFC) and Istela Nunes (0-5 UFC). Carnelossi gave Angela Hill (13-15 UFC) one of her only 3 finish wins in 28 UFC appearances, and she was smashed pillar to post by Lupita Godinez (9-5 UFC). Alencar is far from a UFC prospect at 35 years of age, but she does shoot takedowns, and Carnelossi has a 14% takedown defense rate. If Alencar is able to consolidate top position like I expect, I think she will be able to show levels in the jiu jitsu, advance position, and perhaps open up with ground and pound too.
Prediction: Talita Alencar defeats Ariane Carnelossi via Rd. 2/3/UDEC
