Maincode, the artificial intelligence start-up bankrolled by Ed Craven the billionaire founder of online casino giant Stake.com, will invest $30 million to build a so-called AI factory in Melbourne.

The new facility, which will be housed in a Telstra-owned data centre, is notable for eschewing chips made by Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company. Maincode’s chief executive, Dave Lemphers, said AMD’s chips and platform had proven ideal for its Australian AI large language model (LLM), called Matilda.
