COULD FORMER RISING STAR WINNER GET THROWN A LIFELINE?

Port Adelaide could throw former Rising Star winner Jaidyn Stephenson an AFL lifeline as the club considers offering him a train-on spot over summer.

Code Sports reported this week that the Power are looking at a raft of players for train-on spots ahead of Josh Carr’s first season in charge as senior coach.

The former Collingwood and North Melbourne forward announced his retirement at the end of 2024 with a year to run on his contract, after losing passion for the game.

The 26-year-old played 122 games total between the Pies and Roos, but is now keen to reignite his playing career at the top level.

Stephenson had been plying his trade at his old junior club, Ferntree Gully, in the Eastern Football League, and has now regained his hunger to compete with the very best.

While the Power are yet to commit to giving him a train-on spot, Code Sports has reported they are one of multiple clubs, including Carlton, that Stephenson has contacted in recent months.

‘MOST EXCITING’ IRISH PROSPECT SET FOR CODE SWITCH

17-year-old Gaelic Footballer Kobe McDonald is reportedly set to sign with an AFL club according to the Irish Examiner.

The Mayo product is one of the best prospects the Gaelic competition has seen, but he is set to follow in the footsteps of fellow countymen Geelong’s Oisin Mullin and retired gun Pearce Hanley and convert to the Sherrin.

The report states that three clubs are keen on McDonald, including Melbourne, St Kilda and Brisbane.

Earlier this year, one Gaelic coach called McDonald “the most exciting thing I’ve seen in a jersey in quite a while”.
