To rework one of their many iconic ‘90s hits: ‘Let’s all meet up in the year 2026, won’t it be strange when we’re all fully grown? Let’s see Pulp play at a venue closer to home.’
Pulp haven’t visited our shores since 2011, but the Britpop legends have announced their return to Australia for a headline tour next year.
The group will kick things off in Brisbane in late February, followed by a free performance as part of Adelaide Festival, then play Melbourne and two shows at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt in the first week of March.
Fronted by the besuited Jarvis Cocker’s sharp insights and horny wit and wisdom, Pulp is arguably the coolest, canniest band to emerge from Britpop’s ‘90s heyday.
The group recently added to their storied legacy with the release of More – the reunited band’s first album since 2001’s We Love Life.
A unique, worthy addition to Pulp’s discography, we hailed the Double J Feature Album as “a surprisingly emotive reminder that it’s always worth squeezing the last drops of juice from the pulp.”
“It did take a long time. I hope that it doesn’t take 24 years again,” Cocker remarked in the latest televised season of Take 5 with Zan Rowe.
The frontman also reflected on Pulp’s return to Glastonbury earlier this year, 30 years after making their grand debut at the iconic UK festival with Britpop blockbuster Different Class.
That performance was indicative of the charming power of a Pulp show, with Cocker the foppish master of ceremonies to anthems that many of us grew up on.
‘Babies’, ‘Sorted For E’s & Wizz’, ‘Disco 200’, ‘This Is Hardcore’, ‘Do You Remember The First Time?’ and, of course, the era-defining ‘Common People’.
The band’s 2023 touring through the UK, Europe and North America received rave reviews. It’s finally Australia’s turn.
These forthcoming shows will be the first time in over a decade to experience Pulp’s revered body of work in the flesh.
For those lucky enough to see them before, it’ll be a welcome reunion, and for those who’ve never had the pleasure, this is the perfect opportunity.
