Brisbane will challenge Cathy Svarc’s one-match suspension at the AFLW tribunal in a bid to clear the midfielder to play in the Lions’ qualifying final against Melbourne on Sunday.

Svarc, 33, was cited for striking Collingwood’s Kalinda Howarth in the third quarter of Sunday’s match at Victoria Park with the match review officer grading it intentional, medium impact and to the body.

Svarc appears to reach out and make contact with Howarth and she crosses her path at the edge of the centre square before the Magpies’ player doubles over.

The Lions believe they can successfully argue down Svarc’s suspension at the tribunal, which will sit on Wednesday night this week instead of Tuesday due to the Melbourne Cup.

North Melbourne’s Taylah Gatt was fined $400 for forceful front-on contract on Hawthorn’s Greta Bodey in the fourth quarter of Friday’s contest.

West Coast player Ella Roberts and Carlton rival Lily Goss were both hit with $200 fines for careless contact with an umpire, while Western Bulldogs forward Elaine Grigg also received a $200 sanction for staging.
