Wedding season continues in the NHL, and Calgary Flames defenceman MacKenzie Weegar is getting in on the fun.
The veteran defender married his longtime girlfriend, Maggie Wallace, over the weekend, just under two years after the couple got engaged. Weegar shared a photo on his Instagram story showing him and Maggie having their first dance at the ceremony.

The wedding was well-attended with several of Weegar’s Calgary teammates showing up.
Flames’ Blake Coleman shared a photo on his Instagram story that showed him at the wedding alongside Calgary teammates including Dustin Wolf, Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, Matt Coronato and Ryan Lomberg.
Ex-Flames player Jakob Pelletier was also included in the photo.

The 31-year-old Ottawa native proposed to his new wife in September 2023 while the couple was vacationing at the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. The proposal included a picturesque room filled with rose petals and candles.
It was a match made in heaven as the couple shared the same initials of “MW” before getting married and will continue to do so after sharing their vows.
Weegar has been a leading member of this Flames team ever since his arrival in the summer of 2022. Though the team has struggled throughout his tenure, he has been a very good top-pairing defender for the Flames, posting 20 goals in 2023-24 and 47 points this past season.
His play helped the Flames nearly qualify for a playoff spot this past season, despite preseason expectations that they would be a lottery team.
Trading for him wouldn’t have been a question if it didn’t also involve losing Matthew Tkachuk in a deal with the Florida Panthers. Despite that, the impact that Weegar has had on the Calgary blueline has been immeasurable.
Despite only having played a year in Calgary, Weegar was a popular choice to become the next captain of the Flames in the lead-up to the 2023-24 season. That honour was eventually bestowed on longtime Flames player Mikael Backlund, while Weegar has taken on the role of an assistant in the two seasons since.
With a ring on his finger heading into the new year, Weegar will be looking to help the Flames take their next step towards eventually getting a Stanley Cup ring.
