There has never been a better time to jump on the robot vacuum bandwagon.
The technology keeps improving every day, and highly capable machines are just getting more and more affordable.
Offered the opportunity to road test one of the latest and greatest models from the world’s leading service robotics brand ECOVACS, I jumped at the chance to try out the DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI.

And while it isn’t perfect, I didn’t expect it to be this good.

The setup with the T50 PRO OMNI is about as straightforward as it gets.
From unboxing to mapping my home took less than ten minutes.
Power up the docking station and lift the cover on top of the robot, the ECOVACS HOME app guides you through the rest.
When mapping your home, I reccomend making sure there aren’t any random toys left out and consider lifting your dining room chairs up so the bot can really move freely through your home.
It is really worth putting in the effort for a good mapping pass because the better the robot knows your home the better clean you’ll get.
On top of the docking station is two tanks — clean on the right, dirty on the left.
Fill up the clean tank and you’re pretty much ready to rock.
The clean
Through the app you can control the cleaning mode, suction power, water flow rate, cleaning speed and cleaning passes.
These settings allow you to tailor your clean based on your individual needs at the time.
In a house with three young kids, I like to max out all these settings most of the time and the T50 PRO OMNI does a great job of leaving the floors looking mint.
The two mop heads on the back of the unit extend out to get closer to walls and do a good job of not missing any spots.
The suction on the T50 PRO OMNI is impressive, in fact the ECOVACS website boasts that it has 15,000Pa of suction power, which is well above the average for this type of machine.

One thing I noticed while cleaning was a tendancy for the T50 PRO OMNI to get caught up on things like power cables.
The TrueEdge 2.0 spinning brush had a tendency to get hooked on loose cables from lamps and floor length curtains.
ECOVACS say on their website that the T50 PRO OMNI has a Vision Language Model powering its obstacle avoidance but in my testing this might still have a way to go before it’s fully immune to getting caught up.
What I will say is that similar to the improvements that we’ve seen in things like self-driving cars — the more unique situations these robots encounter, the better this tech will get.
Those random hang-ups aside though the clean that the T50 PRO OMNI leaves behind is a big green tick for me. Credit: 7NEWS

And the ability to customise your clean to a very granular level is a huge win.
Should you buy one?
If you’re in the market for a robot vacuum and mop and you’re tossing up between different brands and models, the DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI punches well above its weight for only $1,299.
It’s easy to use, cleans like a boss and looks stylish while doing the job. It’s also only 81mm tall.
Building on the success of the DEEBOT T50 range that launched earlier this year, the T50 OMNI is designed to make cleaning so effortless that you can finally reclaim your weekends.
