As the league turns its attention toward Week 10, a pair of big-name quarterbacks received unfortunate news with their teams trying to make up ground in the playoff race. The Texans will be without C.J. Stroud as they host the Jaguars on Sunday in a game they pretty much have to win to have any realistic shot at winning the AFC South for third straight season. Stroud is still in concussion protocol, per head coach DeMeco Ryans, after last week’s loss to the Broncos.

Another NFC West team, the San Francisco 49ers, got slightly better news on Wednesday, as Brock Purdy is limited in practice as he works his way back from a toe injury.

The New York Jets traded three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday. On Wednesday, his older brother, Jets linebacker Quincy Williams, told ESPN’s Rich Cimini that he’s lost his starting job.
“My coaches told me I was underperforming, that I’ve been underperforming since training camp,” Quincy Williams said, via Cimini.
Cimini reported that the elder Williams said he’s “not thrilled” with the decision but is eager to win his job back.
Williams was a first-team All-Pro for the Jets in 2023. He’s tied for seventh on the team with 22 total tackles this season, although he’s played in only four games so far. He spent time on IR with a shoulder injury earlier this fall.

The Arizona Cardinals placed quarterback Kyler Murray on injured reserve Wednesday, meaning he’ll miss at least four more games with a sprained foot that’s sidelined him since Week 5.
The Cardinals made the move a day after head coach Jonathan Gannon announced that backup Jacoby Brissett would continue to play as Arizona’s starting quarterback. Gannon announced the transaction, telling reporters that Murray’s move to injured reserve is “the best thing for him and us.”

The Jets realized how strong a market this was for sellers, far outnumbered by buyers as an unusually tight postseason race plants false hopes in teams who might in other years sell. They drained their trade partners accordingly and now have capital to chase draft assets — first and foremost a quarterback, a position about which Jets ownership has not hid its displeasure.
Who else won and who else lost in a trade period that started slow before entering a Tuesday frenzy? Let’s break it down.
