THE car synonymous with the dramatic end to the 2014 Bathurst 1000 has been taken for a spin today by a Great Race-winning driver.

Chassis 888A-037 is the Triple Eight VF Commodore in which Jamie Whincup infamously ran out of fuel on the final lap while trying in vain to hold off a charging Chaz Mostert.

The car is owned by Peter Xiberras and is set to feature at the upcoming Winton Festival of Speed on August 1-3.

Putting the V8 Holden through its paces today are former S5000 racer Nic Carroll and 2016 Bathurst 1000 co-winner Jonathon Webb.

The latter’s cameo in the cockpit marked a reunion of two parties that could have won the 2014 classic – Webb and Shane van Gisbergen having looked the goods before heartbreak struck in pitlane.

888A-037 did taste plenty of success outside of that fateful day, being used by Whincup to seal the 2013 and ’14 titles.

Its history later involved being driven to victory by Craig Lowndes at the 2015 Phillip Island SuperSprint and then by a young Brodie Kostecki on multiple occasions in Super2.
